ABOUT US

The A B Charitable Trust is an independent grant-making organisation, founded in 1990 by Yves and Anne Bonavero to champion human dignity and support the most marginalised and excluded groups in the UK. The Trust has no endowment and is funded annually by the Bonavero family.

Our Values

Justice

We seek to support people most marginalised and excluded by society

Collaboration

We aim to build respectful and mutually beneficial relationships with the people we work with

Learning

We are committed to learn from our grant-making to inform future practice

Efficiency

We maintain high standards of administrative efficiency and cost effectiveness

The way we work

We work closely with others concerned with equity and justice for the most marginalised groups, recognising that we can do more together than we can on our own.

Listening and building relationships is fundamental to our approach, as is being aware of how we fit in the ‘ecosystem’ of charities, funders, and civil society more broadly. We want to know that our funding adds value given what others are doing, so that we achieve the best we possibly can for the organisations and people we seek to support.

We aim to support organisations who learn from their work and respect the agency and talents of the people they work with, putting their interests front and centre.

Strategy Review 2022/23

A big thank you to everyone who took part in our review. The environment is more challenging than ever for those working to uphold human rights. As we are growing as a trust, we reviewed our strategy, learning from external feedback on our work and how we might improve.

We started by commissioning nfpResearch to do an anonymous perceptions survey of both successful and unsuccessful applicants. See the report and a summary of our reflections and actions.

The perceptions survey fed into our broader strategy review, see our strategy review reflections and updated strategic framework that gives a clearer focus on what lies at the heart of our work.
